At Green Gecko, we recognise that our Gecko mums play a significant role in the family unit. Many of our mums are single parents, and the majority do not have access to support via extended family, which is traditionally is the main source of social support in Cambodia. Most of our mums are illiterate, some are victims of landmines and almost all are victims of domestic abuse.
Our outreach work focuses heavily on empowering our Gecko mums to make positive choices. Education and workshops inform our mums about child and maternal health, pregnancy and family planning, and childhood and tropical illnesses, helping them to better look after themselves and their children.
Green Gecko currently operates a women’s shelter at our outreach centre for mothers in need, either from abuse, physical or mental illness. Our dedicated family supporters/social workers visit our mums on a weekly basis, so they can provide culturally appropriate assistance or referrals to medical attention and other community services as it is needed.
Your gift will go towards empowering a Gecko mum to make a better life for herself and her children.
